Experience a Unique and Intimate Wedding in Piégut-Pluviers

24/05/2023

If you've always dreamed of planning a unique and intimate wedding with your nearest and dearest in attendance, then the Old Station Cottages (Les Gîtes de L'Ancienne Gare) may be the perfect destination wedding venue for you.

Nestled in the heart of the Dordogne region, this quaint venue comprises several gîte-style cottages and boasts plenty of amenities and outdoor space to make your celebration truly unique.

So, with that in mind, let's look at why the Old Station Cottages may be the perfect wedding destination for you.

Old Station Cottages: Quaint and Rustic Charm in Rural Dordogne

First and foremost, the Old Station Cottages are a quaint cottage-style wedding venue that gives you exclusive use of the complex. In total, there are three cottages, The Railway Cottage, The Signals, and The Sidings, which are all classically styled and boast features, including exposed stonework and log burners. Guest capacity for those staying with you is 26, with various bed options (double, single, bunks).

Outside, the venue excels with just over four acres of lawns, interspersed with a trampoline and soccer nets for the children and a luxury seasonal swimming pool and terrace. The outdoor space represents a perfect blank canvas for a summer wedding, allowing you to create a unique and memorable event.

Nearby there are historical ruins, a swimming lake, and plenty of places to go hiking or cycling – giving you and your guests plenty to do over a long wedding weekend.

The Old Station Cottages are perfect for couples looking for a rustic and laidback celebration with perhaps less than 50 guests. Of course, it's important to point out that you can have up to 150 guests for a wedding here. But the nature of the venue means it's ideally suited to a more intimate affair, with the possibility for all of your guests to stay with you.

So what might your rustic wedding celebration look like at these lovely cottages?

Getting Married at the Old Station Cottages

It will come as no surprise that our suggestion for a symbolic ceremony would be outside. An excellent choice would be to head for one of the corners within the grounds and create an inviting and romantic spot for you and your guests to gather.

You could opt for a gazebo-style altar or a wedding arch to provide a focal point and complete the space with florally decorated wedding chairs and an aisle runner up to the "altar" area.

Once you've exchanged vows, the poolside terrace is the obvious place to congregate for the cocktail hour. The space already boasts pergolas complete with festoon lights and outdoor lounges. To elevate the space further, you could intertwine fairy lights in between the wooden slats of the wooden perimeter fence and add wireless uplighting in a deep shade of red or purple to create a truly unique and elegant space to mingle and share hors d'oeuvres.

Once again, the best option for the reception is staring you in the face – a wedding marquee erected somewhere within the four acres of lawns. A stretch tent would be an excellent choice, giving you a nice blend of protection from the sun and views out across the grounds.

You could set up the space with communal long tables and chairs, with elegant centrepieces placed every few metres. You could hire a dance floor for your entertainment space, with a dedicated performance area for your live band or DJ, complete with a rented PA system and microphones.

Lastly, you could use lighting fixtures and effects, including gobo projectors, uplighters, and moving head washes, to totally transform the tent into a unique celebration space for you and your guests. A decorative touch, such as adding light-up letters and numbers by the entrance to the marquee, might also be a welcome addition.
