Enjoy an Exclusive French Château Wedding on the Charente-Dordogne Border with a Done-For-You Itinerary
21/04/2025If you’re planning a destination wedding in France, you’ll already be well aware of the seemingly hundreds of elements you need to arrange. From the florist to the caterers and everything in between, planning a wedding in your own country is hard enough, but doing it abroad with suppliers who operate in another language is even more challenging.
That’s where our next wedding venue spotlight, Château de la Couronne, differentiates itself. Not only are several key services (such as catering) included as part of your booking, but you also have a complete wedding weekend itinerary laid out for you without having to lift a finger!
Sounds great, doesn’t it? Based just 25 minutes from Angoulême, this incredible exclusive-use wedding venue is making waves in the southwest France wedding industry and we thought this would be a great opportunity to tell you a little bit more about it and how our services at Fête24 can help make your wedding here picture perfect.
A Dreamy Castle Wedding Location Between Angoulême and Limoges
The venue is right on the Charente-Dordogne border, in the village of Marthon. As mentioned, it does things differently to most other French wedding venues we’ve worked at by having the itinerary set in stone before you book.
Usually delivered over three weekend days (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday) you and your wedding guests are treated to an Arrival Soirée, the Wedding Day, and a Pool Party the day after. Of course, this is flexible to some degree, but it’s a huge weight off your shoulders as a couple planning a huge logistical affair. Catering is included too, which is another aspect ticked off the list.
Moving on to the facilities on offer at this luxurious wedding venue, it has everything you would expect. Grand halls and well-equipped bedrooms await you, with lovely classic but timeless styling. Then there’s the swimming pool area and terrace that plays host to the Sunday Pool Party, and there are over 5 acres of private grounds to explore that feature sprawling lawns, fountains, and woodlands. There’s even a football pitch for those of your guests looking for a quick game of five-a-side.
In total, the venue can host wedding celebrations of up to 500 (yes, 500!) people. However, most are in the region of 80 to 120 as those are the capacities of the main wedding hospitality areas of the venue. Regarding overnight guests, you can invite up to 39 guests (including yourselves) to stay on-site for the duration of your celebration. There are 16 bedrooms spread across the main château, and further accommodation is available in the Coach House.
Planning the Perfect Wedding Celebration at Château de la Couronne
Given that couples marrying here are committing to a three-day celebration (generally speaking, there is some flexibility, as mentioned), there’s plenty of wedding production to think about. Let’s tackle each of the component parts separately.
Arrival Soirée
The arrival soirée is an informal get-together that takes place on the Friday evening once the guests have arrived. It’s in the main courtyard and drinks and sharing boards are provided with support of their dedicated on-site Chandelier Bar.
For event production, we think some well-positioned and draped festoon lights will set off the atmosphere perfectly. And, as the sun sets, the warm orange flow from the faux filaments will look perfect.
Musical accompaniment is also probably a good idea. You could opt for the DIY option and run your favourite Spotify playlist from your phone to a couple of wireless speakers, or you could hire some musicians and support them with a small backline hire package.
The Wedding Day
For the big day itself, you’ve got plenty of options for each component.
For the ceremony, you’ve got both indoor and outdoor locations. You can use the piano room (70 capacity) or the grand banqueting hall (120 ceremony, 80 dining) for indoor ceremonies. However, we think you should make use of the stunning grounds and pick one of the four spaces that the venue offers for ceremonies. A wedding arch would be a nice addition to bring a focal point to proceedings, and don’t forget you might want to rent some wireless microphones and speakers for the speeches.
Moving on to the cocktail hour, there’s a dedicated terrace that would work really well for this or you could simply move on to another area of the gardens to further take advantage of the weather (fingers crossed). The production setup for this will likely be similar to the arrival soirée, where you can have a small musical ensemble or some wireless PA speakers. You might also want to hire some décor elements such as old whisky barrels and maybe a mobile bar for staff to work from.
The dinner and dancing portion of your celebrations give you yet more options. You have permission to hire a wedding marquee, and there’s a dedicated space for it at the rear of the property. You could then deck this out with ambient wireless mood lighting and hang string lights right across the space to give it a more “magical atmosphere.” You could then finish off the space with a rented dance floor, a DJ booth and related equipment, and a wedding party lighting setup to bring added visual interest to the dance floor area.
However, you can also hold the meal in the courtyard or completely al fresco in the gardens – should the weather allow.
The dancing element (if you’ve not gone down the marquee route) is hosted in the banqueting hall and has plenty of space for a live band or DJ setup (including any associated DJ equipment) and a dance floor should you want one (a white LED-lit dance floor would look great in this space).
Pool Party
With some no-doubt sore heads, the Pool Party segment gives you and your guests a chance to reminisce about the events of the day before over poolside pizzas and garden games. Once again, from an event production standpoint, this will likely look somewhat like the arrival soirée. However, we think a DJ performance better suits this type of party. So you might want to hire a DJ, some Pioneer DJ equipment, and a professional DJ booth.
As night falls, you’ll be relying on thoughtful lighting. Festoon lights would look great in chill-out areas, whereas disco lighting can add a bit more spark to the DJ area.
