Located on the outskirts of the small village of Brigueil-le-Chantre, this chateau is a picture of quintessential 15th-century living. The tower remains untouched for hundreds of years, as do several outbuildings.

However, inside, the rooms (which include two suites and several other en-suite bedrooms) are all tastefully appointed with modern amenities – giving the perfect juxtaposition of old and new. There's further overnight accommodation available through the renovated on-site gîte and another self-contained annexe. In total, there's an on-site capacity for 20 overnight guests and a total event capacity of 60 people, making it an ideal choice for those more intimate wedding celebrations.

Plenty of on-site facilities also bring the venue into the 21st century, including a magnificent seasonal swimming pool, a reliable WiFi connection, and ample parking.

The venue boasts a wonderful "Sky Garden" complete with a pergola (a beautiful spot for ceremonies), a "Donjon" reception barn space, and a chateau salon that's well suited to hosting smaller wedding parties. Better still, there's a 12th-century church in the local village with an English priest available to officiate religious ceremonies.

Lastly, this venue is an exclusive-use and dry-hire style venue, meaning you are free to choose your own suppliers, set up the venue exactly how you want it, and manage all the details yourself. There isn't even a corkage fee for bringing in your own wine!

Celebrating Your Marriage at Chateau Mareuil

As mentioned, a centuries-old church is nearby for those of you looking for a religious ceremony. However, we think the on-site elevated Sky Garden is the perfect location for a symbolic ceremony.

You could use the pergola here as an altar/wedding arch and decorate it either with floral elements or fairy lights to add a touch of magic. The latter option would work particularly well for a late afternoon or early evening ceremony, with the fading light enhancing the impact of the warm, soft glow of the fairy lights.

For the cocktail hour, most couples tying the knot here have opted to use the grassy central courtyard as their designated space for this segment.

Popular decorative touches include hanging bunting between the main castle structures and the surrounding outbuildings. Another nice touch some couples have taken is to use wireless uplighting to illuminate the walls of each historic building to completely transform the ambience. A light shade of colour works well here.

Lastly, it's onto your wedding breakfast and reception. Unless you're hosting a particularly intimate celebration, the two main options are the Donjon party barn or hiring a wedding tent for your evening celebration.

The latter is probably preferable for celebrations of over 40 guests, as you'll have more space to move around and create a more inviting atmosphere. We suggest having long, communal-style tables with wooden chairs and rustic touches such as hessian table runners and floral centrepieces in earthy tones.

You could then complement those decorative touches with your technical equipment. From mood lighting in earthy, pastel shades to sound systems that can be customised to create a unique ambience, plenty of options are available. Another nice touch might be to use monogram lighting to project your names and the date of the celebration onto the ceiling of the canvas.

Lastly, you might hire a dance floor, a DJ and PA system to get the party started in earnest. A large wedding marquee would have more than enough space to seat everyone at the quoted capacity of 60 and still have plenty of room for a performance and dance floor area.
