Chateau Barayre: Everything You Need in One Place

As mentioned, this chateau complex has everything a couple could want from a wedding venue. The castle itself boasts a storied history and retains every inch of its 12th-century heritage. It was a stopover for many English battalions during The Hundred Years War and even hosted a visit from Pope Clement IV in the early 13th century.

There's also a 17th-century barn which acts as an excellent backup reception space should the weather not cooperate, and there's an equally historic and impressive church no more than a few hundred yards from the castle.

With extensive grounds to explore, it's easy to see why this is one of the most popular wedding venues in the Lot region. There's also a swimming pool, a mini-cinema, an outdoor pizza oven (perfect for making your own from scratch), and hiking and mountain biking directly from the property.

Inside, the rooms and suites are tastefully appointed and have space for up to 28 of your closest guests. But fear not. No one needs to stay far away from the celebrations with 450 beds within a 10km radius, including all standards of accommodation – from castles to campsites.

This is an excellent space for wedding celebrations of up to 120 guests, making it perfect for large or small, intimate weddings.

So how might a wedding celebration at Chateau Barayre look?

As mentioned, there are several options for your wedding ceremony. The church is merely a  stone's throw away and is the most popular choice for couples tying the knot here.

However, another popular option is to exchange vows under the impressive cedar tree, which is several centuries old. You could elevate this space with bunting, a thoughtfully appointed wedding arch, some rustic aisle runners, and an arrangement of wedding chairs.

For the cocktail hour, there are several options. The multiple terraces within and next to the central courtyard are perhaps the top contenders as your space for drinks and conversation. No matter where you choose to host this segment of your day, festoon lights and perhaps an acoustic performer (or one with a small PA system) will add elegance and ambience to proceedings.

For the wedding reception, there are two principal options. The first is the 17th-century barn, which offers a blank canvas to create your dream wedding reception space.

You can do so many things here to achieve the perfect vibe. However, we strongly recommend uplighting to transform the look and feel of the exposed stone walls. Red, in particular, will create an elevated and sophisticated tone. You can then use tasteful centrepieces on each table to accent the red walls and create a beautiful and unique wedding atmosphere.  

Your other option, which may be preferable during the summer months, is to hire a wedding marquee to take advantage of the sumptuous grounds and gardens. If this is your preferred option, you could create a wonderful rustic celebration with earthy décor tones, including hessian table runners. Once again, you could use festoon or fairy lighting to create a magical or "fairytale" wedding feel.

Lastly, it would be wise to hire a dance floor and rent high-quality sound equipment to ensure your guests can enjoy the performance of your live band or DJ to the fullest.
