La Cannonerie: A Charente Wedding Venue Like No Other 

As mentioned, what strikes you about this place is just how isolated it is. The domaine of La Cannonerie is situated bang slap in the middle of a 30-acre estate with no other neighbouring buildings even in sight (perfect for louder parties or weddings with a live band)

Better yet, it boasts an elevated position that gives you stunning views across the rolling countryside adorned with vineyards and traditional arable land. Some of the wedding photos of couples amongst the sunflowers and vines are absolutely stunning!

But while location is perhaps the big selling point, let us tell you that the venue itself does not disappoint. It’s been lovingly restored by the owners and features modern accommodation spread across several connected cottages, allowing you to put up 36 guests overnight. 

La Cannonerie is set out like a traditional dominance, with several flanks of buildings forming a large rectangle and leaving a gorgeous and extensive courtyard in the middle. This would be our suggestion for hosting the bulk of your wedding activities, as it’s just such a lovely space that gives you ultimate privacy while still being able to appreciate the incredible hundred-plus-year-old architecture that envelops you.  

But there are other options should you wish to use them. The Loggia is an excellent option. It’s an open-sided event space with stone arches that give you a lovely view across the courtyard. Or there’s the wedding barn, a space for up to 100 seated guests with fairy lighting and old stone walls that just give it the perfect rustic charm. 

It’s common for couples marrying here to have an open-air ceremony in the courtyard and then move into festivities in either the Loggia or Banqueting Barn, we have worked at La Cannonerie a few times now typically supplying an outdoor PA system with a wireless mic for a wedding ceremonies but there’s nothing to stop you from having the whole celebration in the courtyard, given its colossal size.

Given the sheer number of options and potential configurations here, knowing where to start is difficult. You might feel the same if you’re at the beginning of the wedding planning process. So here are some ideas of how you could incorporate some of our wedding production services into this incredible venue. 

Firstly, let’s start with the outdoors. We feel it would be a shame not to utilise the stunning courtyard. A ceremony in front of the main building on the sprawling lawn would make for stunning photos. You can hire white wedding chairs and rent a tastefully decorated real wooden wedding arch to bring a focal point to the space.

With the ceremony out of the way, you could move toward the back of the courtyard for your cocktail hour, enjoying the sunshine and some laid-back music from either a sound system package provided by us or perhaps a live performer you have booked - If you are looking for a DJ to play background music we offer this service which can be found on our DJ Services page

For the evening reception, you could reuse the courtyard and hire one of our popular large canvas stretch tent accompanied by festoon lights to keep the whole celebration alfresco which really works!, or you could opt to use one of the two dedicated event spaces available onsite, two different feels & looks to be honest. 

The Loggia would look fabulous with well-positioned wireless uplighting for ambience and maybe some festoon lighting. There is enough space to fit your tables and chairs and a small DJ setup for dancing. Alternatively, you can use the wedding barn and do a similar setup if you’re expecting close to the 100-guest capacity. It would give you more scope for a live band with a larger production with stage, sound & lighting setup if required.
