Chateau Lacanaud Escape to One of the Dordognes Most Beautiful Chateaux for Your Wedding
22/04/2025France’s Dordogne region is no stranger to breathtaking wedding venues, but Château Lacanaud stands apart as a rare blend of grandeur and intimacy. This meticulously restored château, nestled on 20 acres of sun-drenched grounds and woodland, offers couples an exclusive-use sanctuary where every detail feels purposefully personal.
Family-owned and thoughtfully managed by Jonny and Liz (a British couple who traded city life for the French countryside), this venue prioritises bespoke celebrations over “paint-by-numbers” events. With accommodation for 23 guests across two historic houses (the Main Château and Coach House), it’s ideal for couples craving a wedding that’s both luxurious and deeply heartfelt.
From its heated salt-water infinity pool overlooking a private lake to its ten secluded terraces, Château Lacanaud invites you to craft a multi-day celebration where each moment unfolds in a new, enchanting corner of the estate. And with Fête24’s expertise in enhancing the Dordogne region's finest venues, you can pair our production experience with the undeniable beauty of this venue to create a wedding you’ll no one will ever forget.
But enough about us. Let’s first focus on the venue and how you might enjoy an incredible wedding event here.
A More Intimate Dordogne Wedding Venue that Punches Above its Weight
While Château Lacanaud certainly isn’t the biggest wedding venue in the Dordogne region, it packs a hefty punch. Firstly, one of its huge selling points is the 20 acres of grounds, which include formal gardens, scenic terraces, and enchanting woodland. Then there’s the aforementioned stunning 12m x 6m salt-water infinity pool that boasts dramatic views of the lake.
The inside is stunning, too. The owners have lovingly restored the 18th-century château to its former glory and have opted for a French chic décor theme that perfectly blends its inherent history with modern luxury. The Coach House follows a similar trend and, in total, you’ve got space to host 23 guests. For any extra guests, you've got the beautiful medieval bastide town of Eymet just a few minutes down the road, which offers both plenty to do and additional accommodation.
Speaking of location, this place is perfectly suited to destination weddings, being just 25 minutes from Bergerac Airport (regular flights from the UK from May to October). Even the larger transport hub Bordeaux is only 90 minutes away by car, meaning there’ll be no arduous transfers for you and your guests.
Lastly, but potentially most importantly, this is your space to do with what you please. There are several locations on-site for both the ceremony and reception, and you aren’t tied to a specific caterer, so you can have anything from informal BBQs to fancy French fine dining. No corkage fees and your choice of excellent local wineries make drinks easy, too.
This venue really is a blank canvas to make your own. So let’s walk you through some potential ideas to help you plan the perfect wedding celebration.
Getting Married at Château Lacanaud – Planning Your Celebration
Not many venues can match the sheer flexibility on offer when it comes to the specific locations for your key wedding segments such as the ceremony and your location. So let’s take you through your options and advise you on how to successfully incorporate the key wedding production elements.
Wedding Ceremony
For your symbolic ceremony, you’ve got as many as five locations to choose from. Popular locations from previous couples include the formal gardens and in front of the lake. We also love the idea of tying the knot in the woodland, which offers excellent potential for you to drape festoon lights from branch to branch and create a magical fairytale vibe for an early evening ceremony. Alternatively, you could go for a more rustic daytime ceremony with brown wooden wedding chairs and a wedding arch dressed in green leaves and flowers in pastel accent colours.
Aside from our woodland preference you’ve also got the infinity swimming pool terrace area with the sweeping views over the lake or the courtyard with the château as other options. Wherever you decide to tie the knot, something you may want to think about hiring is wireless speakers and microphones so everyone can hear the celebrant and any vows or speeches being made.
Cocktail Hour and Wedding Reception
Yet again, you’re spoilt for choice when it comes to the cocktail hour and, save for perhaps the woodland, you’ve got all the same location choices as for the ceremony. If it was up to us, we would suggest the courtyard as it’s so well suited to this portion of your celebration.
String lighting or festoon lighting could really enhance this space, and some other welcome additions might include some old whiskey barrels for use as poseur tables. A mobile bar might also give you a little more practicality for serving cocktails.
For the evening meal and wedding reception, we recommend staying outdoors and either hiring a wedding marquee to offer some insurance against any unwanted weather or using a clearing in the woodlands that other couples have used in the past. If you’re going for the boho chic look, then the woodland offers a spectacular backdrop and something a bit different from most wedding receptions.
Due to its distance from the château, there’s a bit more to think about regarding power and distribution, but we’ll be able to help with that. Once set up, you can enjoy a string lighting canopy, wedding party/disco lighting, and all the sound equipment you might need for your evening entertainment, such as a DJ or live band (which we can also supply you with).
However, if you decide to go for the former option, you can use a large stretch tent to create the perfect venue for your late-evening celebrations. From wireless mood lighting to backline rental for a live band, we can be on hand to deliver and install your technical event production elements that will make it a space of your own making.
